But then I got to thinkin', if that really was the case and old Ted's body didn't show up, you'd be spendin' the rest of your life in the courts tryin' to get your hands on the money. So when you kept drivin' by the cemetery all day, I knew you wanted to get up here for some reason. I figured I'd just let that happen, let you come up here and find out what you knew. What I found out was that you didn't really know where the body was. It took you too long to decide to dig. If you'd have known, you'd have gone straight for it."
"But how did you know Theodore's body was in there?" Charlie asked.
"One of my men thought this whole site looked a little strange this morning when we discovered all this. We was up here investigating Betty Elizabeth's accident. He dug up your daddy's grave on pure hunch."
"That still doesn't tell us who killed Theodore."
The Sergeant shrugged his sloping shoulders. All in due time," he said confidently, "we'll get it figured out. Only thing we know for sure at this point is that they're both dead. And," he added, "we know one other thing. Somebody went to a whole lot of trouble to put your brother's body in there with your daddy's."
